TeachBeyond continues to raise funds for underprivileged children

TeachBeyond SA raised R43 000 through their 1000Beyond fundraising initiative, which ran from January 1 to April 9.

The TeachBeyond organisation celebrated the last day of its 1000Beyond initiative at Root Coffee Bar in Brackendowns on April 9.

This fundraiser aimed to generate R100 000, which will support TeachBeyond SA’s educational programmes.

“We’re still slightly short of our fundraising goal, and we’re looking to sum up the gap. We’re thinking of running 100km in a day in July if we don’t manage to raise the R100 000,” said Chad Markgraaf, a senior executive at TeachBeyond SA.

In an initiative representing TeachBeyond’s mission, Dayne Smith from TeachBeyond, inspired by a shared vision with his friend Markraaf, embarked on the 10001Beyond initiative, in which they pledged to run 10km daily for 100 days.

“Today is day 100 and 1 000km in, and I feel happy and excited that we were able to do this. Our bodies are sore, but we’re excited to achieve this goal. This is a great achievement,” said Smith,

“I feel proud of ourselves, especially Dayne. He had a serious injury before the first week of running and pushed himself mentally to get past that and to make it through his 1 000km goal,” Markgraaf said.

The funds raised through 1000Beyond will assist in essential areas, such as teacher training, entrepreneurship programmes, school upgrading and improvements, and the global support given by Open Schools Worldwide.

The impact of this fundraiser goes beyond the physical feat of running; it reflects TeachBeyond’s basic beliefs, exhibiting a passion for transformative education and a dedication to making a long-term difference in the lives of poor children.

Smith’s 1000 Beyond initiative, which directs the funds generated to TeachBeyond SA’s many programmes, is poised to produce a ripple effect that will empower educators and learners.

“A big thank you to our supporters and everyone who was with us during this season. We are grateful,” said Smith.
