Celebrate Mother’s Day with the JSPCA
Make this Mother’s Day unique by giving the animals a meal and some tender, loving care (TLC).
The Johannesburg Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (JSPCA) in Reuven will celebrate Mother’s Day by hosting a morning where moms and the public can do charitable deeds at the kennels.
The society invites everyone to come on May 11 and show all the pets in their care some love.
The marketing and fundraising manager at JSPCA, Liana Marx, said: “Not all animals have the luxury of having their own mom. This year, we wanted to do something extra special to spoil the animals in our kennels. We will open up our kennels and ask the public to join us in giving the animals lots of attention in celebration of the thing that makes mothers, and all mother figures out there, so special – their unconditional love.”
People attending can take photos of the animals, take them for a walk or spend time with them.
The JSPCA also wants to give all their animals a special meal on the day, and everyone attending can help them with this as well.
“We hope to give the dogs some chicken, rice and gravy, and tuna or pilchards to the cats,” said Marx.
Even if you can’t join them on the day, sponsoring something towards these special meals would be most welcome.
They also have a Mother’s Day kennel sponsorship available for only R300. You can sponsor a kennel for May and dedicate it to your mom. The funds raised will help the organisation buy much-needed blankets for all their animals for winter.
In return, you get to honour your mother/aunt/sister or granny and a certificate of the sponsored animal.
The SPCA plays a vital role in the community by fighting animal cruelty and accepting all stray, abandoned, abused and confiscated animals – in fact, they never turn any animal away.
“However, beyond this, we also run active education and outreach programmes to monitor and promote the welfare of animals and offer spraying/neutering support and vaccinations. We work with our community as much as we can and hope that on May 11, they support us with donations or attend just to have fun,” expressed Marx.
