SOJO Business and Tourism hosts annual golf day

The golf day drove positive change in the Johannesburg south community.

SOJO Business and Tourism successfully held its much-anticipated annual charity golf day at the picturesque Glenvista Country Club, uniting business leaders and community members for an enjoyable day of golf, camaraderie and friendly competition.

This year’s event provided an entertaining outing and raised R282 591 vital funds to support charitable community projects managed by the SOJO Helping Hands Foundation.

The funds raised will significantly contribute to various projects enhancing the south of Johannesburg community.

Among the highlights are a charity store established at the Mall of the South, community days, support for local NPOS and a pilot community farming project.

The Johannesburg Expo Centre wins second place.

“The tremendous support from local businesses and community members reflects our shared commitment to uplifting the south of Joburg,” said Nicky Vakaloudis, the CEO of SOJO Business and Tourism.

“We extend appreciation to the 88 golfers and 31 sponsors and prize sponsors. Together, we are making a meaningful difference through our four pillars: sustainable environment, education and training, youth engagement and enterprise development, and support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs).”

The event had 22 four-ball teams, comprising 88 participants from local businesses, including Gold Reef City. Each golfer wore branded golf shirts and caps provided by the main sponsor, Gold Reef City, when the tournament began with a shotgun start at 11:30.

The competition was fun, fierce and thrilling. Some 16 teams received prizes, with a staggering R141 491 in total prize value donated by the sponsors.

Third place goes to Lyden Chetty L&R Services.

The day ended with a prize-giving dinner. In addition to the golf tournament, SOJO thanked the Mall of the South for their R5 000 donation to help the SOJO Helping Hands Foundation.
