Critically low South Hills tower affects Rosettenville Clinic

Johannebsurg Water says their teams are monitoring the system.

Patients had to be turned away as Rosettenville Clinic had no water on February 11.

According to the acting operations manager, Mary Harvey, the taps ran dry at midday on February 10.

“We tried to help the elderly and children. However, we had to send other patients to nearby clinics because we did not have water. As health professionals, water is very important as we have to wash our hands before we can examine any patient.

“I explained the situation to the patients who were present. I guess there was confusion as others were barred from entering the clinic because of what I had explained.

“We sent staff to other clinics to help there as we are determined to work. On February 12, we will start with those who came today, as we issued sick notes for them. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” she said.

She advised patients to use alternative clinics like Bellavista and South Hills or go to South Rand Hospital.

Johannesburg Water (JW) issued a statement:

“The South Hills tower is critically low to empty. The Klipriviersberg Reservoir feeding the South Hills pump station is low because of high demand, exceeding the available capacity.

“This affects pumping at the South Hills pump Station, which had to be stopped because of poor suction pressure on the inlet to the pump station.

“JW is closely monitoring the system and will resume pumping as soon there is enough suction pressure on the inlet to the pump station.

“Areas supplied from the tower will experience poor pressure to no flow. The affected areas include Risana, Tulisa Park, Steeledale, Linmeyer, South Hills, The Hill, Oakdene, Rosettenville and Klipriviersberg Estate.

“JW continues to provide alternative water supply to the affected areas while we work to restore normal service. Our teams are actively monitoring the situation to ensure all residents have access to water during this time.”
