The Dog Club brings joy, meals to over 400 children

The Dog Club fed over 400 kids to show love and support to the community.

Children cannot fake smiles and laughter, as was witnessed at The Dog Club’s feeding project.

With many donations received, the project fed over 400 kids.

The club feeds many homeless people and their pets daily. The goal is to see that no one, people and animals alike, go hungry. The event organiser and co-owner, Janneque Bezuidenhout, couldn’t believe they fed so many children.

“Just seeing how many children there are in the area who have nothing motivated us to hold another event where we feed the people,” she said.

The management is grateful for the donations from community members.

“The event would not have been possible without the generosity of our amazing clients. After doing the count and realising how many kids were made to smile, I broke down in tears,” Bezuidenhout expressed.

The kids enjoyed the activities and each child received a gift bag with Easter eggs, sweets, chips and a drink. It was important to Bezuidenhout that every child got something to take home.

Children receive their gifts bags.

“These kids come from homes where their parents are in jail or on drugs. Most live with their grandmothers or drug-dependent parents, with as many as five sharing a single bed. Ensuring every child received a bag of something was crucial.

“These kids need to know there is still good in the world and that they are loved. I believe they need to understand compassion, knowing we are their safe space, and that life is beautiful. Their current situation can change if they want it badly enough,” she said.

The Dog Club often hosts charitable events, with Bezuidenhout saying it was because they have a passion for people and their pets. She also said that if people wanted to give, they should give wholeheartedly, knowing how far even a small contribution can go.

Many children at the event did not leave empty-handed or on an empty stomach.
