WATCH: SOJO Helping Hands Foundation charity shop opens at Mall of the South

Donations of gently used items are encouraged with every contribution making a real difference.

The SOJO Helping Hands Foundation officially opened its Charity Shop at Mall of the South.

This inspiring new initiative, located on level zero at entrance one of the mall, is set to support underprivileged communities in the south of Johannesburg through the resale of quality, pre-loved items generously donated by the public.

The shop offers an array of affordable goods, including clothing, stationery, household items, and more, with all proceeds going directly toward SOJO’s community upliftment programmes.

The public is encouraged to continue donating gently used items such as clothing and shoes (for all ages), stationery and school supplies, kitchenware, bedding, and general household goods and toys, books, and games.

A dedicated donation box is available at level zero, entrance two of the mall.

Empowering lives through entrepreneurship

The purpose of the charity shop is to fundraise and provide a platform for developing entrepreneurial skills among individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as those living on the streets, in shelters, or in underserved communities.

This initiative aims to restore dignity and provide an opportunity for rehabilitation and reintegration into society.

In SOJO’s upskilling programme, participants will work in the store and be trained in essential retail and business operations, including point-of-sale (POS) systems, sales, stock management, and overall retail management.

The programme is designed to be sustainable, measurable, and closely monitored, ensuring long-term impact and genuine transformation.
