It will be live at the Lyric Theatre, Gold Reef City on July 18.
The iconic Gold Reef City Theatre will be the venue for the ground-breaking collaboration featuring MÖRDA and Soweto Gospel Choir on Mandela Day.
Road to Bassline Fest History of House is a once-in-a-lifetime collaboration that promises a soulful and energetic fusion of Afro house, Amapiano, gospel, and timeless house classics, brought to life by two of South Africa’s most influential musical forces.
This show promises a unique blend of soulful gospel, cutting-edge house beats, and authentic South African music traditions – a true celebration of musical heritage and innovation.
Shimmy Jiyane of Soweto Gospel Choir said, “We can’t wait to showcase our take on these evergreen house classics, especially performing them on stage with MÖRDA for the first time.”
MÖRDA said he wanted this music to bring peace and joy.
“I want people to dance, to feel free,” he said.
The renowned Soweto Gospel Choir, a three-time Grammy-winning ensemble, will showcase their rich harmonies and soulful voices, led by Shimmy Jiyane.
Fresh from tours across Australasia, they will debut the South African performance of their History of House album, delivering stirring renditions of classics like Silence and Ride Like the Wind, creatively reimagined in South African languages. The album was produced by Groove Terminator and Latroit.
Joining them is the dynamic MÖRDA, formerly of Black Motion, whose innovative soundscapes and electrifying live performances continue to push boundaries. Fans can look forward to his hit tracks from the acclaimed Asante trilogy, the powerful new single Glory, featuring Nomfundo Moh and Nontokozo Mkhize.
