Soldiers for Jesus bring hope to Kliptown and Westbury children

For hundreds of children and care workers, the day out meant more than fun - it was a reminder that they are seen and loved.

Soldiers for Jesus Ministries recently treated 500 children and their care workers to a special day out at Rietvlei Zoo Farm.

The children came from Persevere Until Something Happens (PUSH) in Kliptown and Pops Kitchen in Westbury.

For many of these children, who come from underprivileged homes, the day was a joyful escape from their everyday challenges.

PUSH is an organisation that supports underserved communities. They run several projects aimed at empowering people, improving lives, and bringing positive change.

Social auxiliary worker Zinhle Thwala from PUSH said: “This day out is more than just fun. It reminds the children that we care about and value them.”

Pops Kitchen, founded seven years ago by Patricia Foster, helps feed families in areas such as Westbury, Riverlea, Noordgesig, and Roodepoort. Patricia started the initiative after witnessing the great need in these communities.

Caregivers Anastacia De Silver and L’oréal Malgas, highlighted: “Seeing the joy on their faces makes all the hard work worth it. It’s about community.”

The event lasted the entire day and was filled with fun and adventure. Children enjoyed jumping castles, played soccer, went on swing rides, and even tried a mini-zipline.

Russell Jones from Soldiers For Jesus further emphasised: “We wanted to give these children a day full of happiness and hope. Many of them face tough times, so it was special to see their smiles today.”

This day brought the organisations together to give children a chance to enjoy life beyond their daily struggles. Care workers also had time to relax and watch the children play.
