Auto Expedi8 leads the way in female automotive technician training
The group’s commitment shines as trainees pursue the prestigious certification, enhancing expertise in cutting-edge vehicle technologies.
Female partner-owned Bosch Car Service centre group Auto Expedi8 is at the forefront of transforming the automotive sector by actively training female technicians.
Two of them are on track to become the world’s first female Bosch Master Technicians.
Groundbreaking training programme
Auto Expedi8 has been in operation for 18 years and employs women in both technical and administrative roles.
Managing director Jenene Cronning said the group is committed to opening doors for women in the automotive industry.
This commitment is evident in the progress and achievements of its qualified and trainee female technicians.
The Bosch Master Technician programme offers training in vehicle diagnostics, electronic systems, engine management and advanced automotive technologies. It equips technicians to work on the latest vehicle models, including systems involving driver assistance and high-voltage components.
“This internationally recognised certification helps improve workshop efficiency, reduce customer wait times and enhance service quality. Bosch Master Technicians are trained to work on petrol, diesel, brake, electronic and electric vehicle systems. They are highly qualified to meet the demands of the global automotive industry,” said Cronning.
Among Auto Expedi8’s female staff are Zipho Sihiya, a qualified mechanic, Robin Khosa, an apprentice, and Stephanie Cronning, who is both an apprentice and a Bosch Master Technician trainee. This is the highest technical certification Bosch offers.
All employees at Auto Expedi8 receive mechanical training, and some continue to build their skills in customer-facing advisory roles.
Expanding footprint and expertise
“This development also reflects a shift in the ownership structure of our group, while more women are entering technical and advisory roles across our six branches,” Cronning said.
The group follows a structured process when recruiting apprentices. Applicants must meet academic requirements, show mechanical aptitude and pass the Bosch workshop test before being accepted into the training programme.
“Being a qualified automotive technician remains a scarce skill in South Africa. We aim to create long-term career opportunities for our staff,” she said.
Auto Expedi8 staff also have access to Bosch’s international training curriculum, with selected individuals eligible for overseas development programmes. These opportunities ensure staff keep pace with the latest global trends in vehicle servicing.
In addition to promoting female participation, Auto Expedi8 is also growing its physical footprint. The recent opening of a sixth branch at Springs Mall adds to its existing locations at Gateway Alberton, Alberton City, The Reef Germiston, Mall of the South and Rifle Range in the south of Johannesburg.
“Our branches are equipped with modern diagnostic equipment and meet Bosch’s international service standards,” said Cronning.
Setting global standards
Auto Expedi8 recently achieved a 100 percent rating during an audit by Robert Bosch head office in Germany. The audit evaluated the group’s compliance with Bosch’s global standards, including the use of genuine Bosch parts, quality of customer service, technical expertise and adherence to environmental and safety regulations.
It also assessed the quality of staff training across branches, ensuring employees meet the required technical and operational benchmarks.
Cronning said consistency is key to the group’s success.
“Auto Expedi8’s combination of technical expertise, staff development and compliance with global standards positions us as a service provider customers can rely on for quality across all locations,” she said.
