WATCH: Rosettenville rapper C-4, brings authentic Hip Hop to Joburgb south
The original Hip Hop era still has representatives.
Yusufu Swalehe (known as C-4), a 42-year-old rapper from Rosettenville, has been making name for himself in the South African music scene with his authentic hip-hop style.
Born in Malawi and raised in Zimbabwe, Swalehe was exposed to hip hop music at the age of 16, while completing his schooling.
Legendary rap artists of the era, including Notorious B.I.G, Tupac Shakur, Nas, Mobb Deep, and Wu Tang Clan, had a profound influence on Swalehe’s musical style.
“I come from the original hip hop era, with a lot of the artists who inspired me growing the genre,” said C-4.
With a passion for music that spans decades, C-4 has been paying for studio time to create his tracks. He has released music on YouTube Music and Spotify, and has performed at various venues in Turffontein, Rosettenville, Maboneng, and even Cape Town.
“I’ve been making music for a while and I have many tracks, mainly hip-hop but also Amapiano,” he said.
C-4 recently signed with Ayanda Films, who promotes and manages his music career.

“Ayanda has taken the workload off my shoulders and allowed me to focus on music,” expressed C-4.
With this new partnership, C-4 is set to take his music to the next level, with upcoming performances at Constitution Hill and The Vinyl Lifestyle nightclub in Johannesburg. He also has a new song titled Abazali Bam.
As C-4 continues to promote his music and perform at high-profile venues, his dedication to his craft and his unique style are sure to leave a lasting impact on the South African hip hop scene.
