GSport Awards celebrate boxing champions and women in sport
Three inspiring women honoured for their hard work, talent and leadership in women’s boxing and sport.
Monica “Savage” Mkandla celebrated a proud moment at the GSport Awards red carpet event, where she was honoured with the prestigious Woman in Africa title, a dream come true for the undefeated boxing star.
The GSport Awards are a highlight of South Africa’s sporting calendar, dedicated to celebrating and promoting women in sport.
As Africa’s longest-running women’s sports recognition platform, GSport continues to spotlight those breaking barriers and inspiring change both on and off the field.
Monica is not only a professional boxer but also the current ABU SADC Champion. This latest accolade adds to her impressive record, as she holds two major continental titles while remaining unbeaten in the ring.
Her success was shared on the night by her teammate, Bonita van Jaarsveldt, who received a Ministerial Certificate of Excellence in the Special Recognition category.
Both athletes are guided by their manager and coach, Colleen McAusland, who was also a finalist at the awards for her dedication and leadership.

“I’m very proud of my girls. They work and train so hard to make their mark in boxing,” said McAusland. “I thank GSport for recognising their efforts and for providing a platform where women in sport can be seen and celebrated.”
Each year, the awards shine a light on exceptional women who are redefining excellence and serving as role models for the next generation.
The event remains a powerful celebration of achievement and a proud gathering of South Africa’s finest sporting talent.
