City Power warns of constrained power system as outages hit Johannesburg South
Several substations are affected, with hundreds of faults logged and repair teams working to restore supply across multiple areas.
City Power has urged residents to reduce their electricity usage as the power system remains constrained, with several areas in the south experiencing ongoing outages.
In an update issued on January 10 at 08:22, City Power said its Service Delivery Centre currently has 678 open calls, with 364 of these older than 24 hours.
According to City Power, power supply at the Eikenhof Substation, Southfork Distributor, has been restored to about 59% of customers in Kibler Park, Alveda Park and surrounding areas. Teams are attending to snapped overhead lines to allow for full restoration.
At the Robertsham Substation, Frampton Standby Distributor, operators are investigating the cause of an outage affecting customers in Booysens Reserve and nearby areas. Affected residents will be kept informed as work continues.
City Power teams are also attending to faults at the Mulbarton Substation, Glen Eagle Distributor, which has left parts of Oakdene, Eastcliff, Linmeyer and surrounding areas without electricity. Power will be restored once repairs and testing have been completed.
Meanwhile, a power trip at the Crown Substation, Soccer City No 1 and 2, has affected customers at FNB Stadium, Nasrec and surrounding areas. A team has been dispatched to investigate the cause of the outage.
City Power confirmed that load shedding remains suspended until further notice but warned that the system is under pressure.
Residents are encouraged to reduce electricity consumption to help prevent overloading.
