Operational hours change on weekends at the JSPCA
Adoptions and meet-and-greets take place on the JSPCA’s open days or by appointment.
The JSPCA advised the community that its adoption reception would be closed every second Saturday of the month.
This closure gives the JSPCA team time to focus on animal care, inspections, emergencies, and staff well-being, ensuring they can continue to provide the best care to the animals that depend on them.
Important to know:
• Animals continue to be cared for as normal. Although the facility is not open to the public, staff are still on duty to care for the animals.
• Emergency assistance remains available.
• Animal welfare work, inspections, and response services continue.
• For stray, abandoned, or injured animals, contact the JSPCA duty inspector on 083 604 1172.
Please note:
The JSPCA does not have a vet. If your animal is injured or sick, contact your closest vet for assistance. The JSPCA is available to assist with any euthanasia if required.
Emergencies:
If you have an animal welfare emergency, contact 083 604 1172. Do not send an email, as the offices are closed and the response to assist an animal will be delayed, resulting in unnecessary suffering.
Non-urgent enquiries will be attended to on the next working day.
Adoptions and visits:
Adoptions and meet-and-greets take place on the JSPCA’s open days or by appointment.
Email the JSPCA at kennels@jhbspca.co.za or phone 011 681 3600 to arrange a visit. Do not contact the emergency line to enquire about adoption or if an animal is still available, as the JSPCA inspectors are out on the road and cannot provide the required information.
Only the kennels department will assist with all the necessary information.
Thank you for your understanding, patience, and continued support.
