City Power conducts site visits, revenue drive in Joburg south
City Power inspects abandoned and hijacked buildings, collects debts and enforces power cut-offs.
City Power Reuven SDC conducted a comprehensive site visit and revenue-collection drive in the Booysens, Rosettenville, and City Deep areas on March 23.
The drive focused on inspecting abandoned and hijacked buildings that have been a drain on the utility’s resources.
The operation aimed to restore lawful use of properties and secure outstanding electricity payments.
During the drive, City Power successfully collected outstanding debts from two defaulting customers in Booysens, bringing overdue accounts up to date.

In the same suburb, other customers were given the option to settle a portion of their bills to keep their electricity supply active; those who failed to pay were switched off and will remain without power until further notice.
The utility’s inspection teams also identified a hijacked building and one abandoned structure next to it, which will be reported to relevant authorities for legal action and possible reclamation. The move is part of City Power’s broader strategy to curb illegal electricity usage and improve revenue collection across the network.

“We’re always following up on defaulters and illegal occupants. The site visit showed us exactly where the problems are, and we won’t hesitate to cut power or pursue legal steps to protect our service and the paying customers. This drive is all about securing the grid’s financial health and ensuring law-abiding users get uninterrupted electricity,” said Issac Mangena, City Power spokesperson.
