Fishing enthusiasts gathered at Fun Fishing at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on June 27 for the winter fishing competition.

It was hosted by Delta Sport in collaboration with Fun Fishing.

The event attracted anglers of all skill levels for a day of friendly competition, with participants competing for prizes in various categories.

Martin Fritz claimed first place overall, followed by Darren Feeney in second place and Dean Viljoen in third.

Feeney also landed the biggest fish of the day, a 3kg carp, while Fritz won the award for the most unique catch with a mirror carp.

Caleb Pelser also received recognition in the most unique catch category for catching a “Lippy”.

Gavin Kilpatrick thanked everyone who participated, saying the event would not have been possible without the support of the anglers who attended.

“A huge thank you to each and every one of you for attending our event. Without you, it would not have been possible. It was a pleasure meeting you all,” said Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick also thanked the event sponsors, including Jacques Dicks of Kikki D’s for the prizes and giveaways, Mario and Cecilia Viljoen and MJ Bends for sponsoring the Rietvlei traces.

Looking ahead, Kilpatrick announced that the Spring Fishing Competition is scheduled for August 29.

He encouraged community members to keep an eye out for more information and invited anglers to visit the pond beforehand to practice their fishing skills.

During the upcoming school holidays, Delta Sport will also offer guided fishing lessons at Fun Fishing.
