Mulbarton, The Hill and Turffontein hit by ongoing substation outages
City Power urges customers to cut usage and reduce usage where possible to help prevent further overloads.
City Power Johannesburg has issued an outage update for the Reuven Service Delivery Centre, warning that the power system remains constrained and urging customers to reduce electricity consumption to prevent overload.
Five hundred and sixty-six open calls have been logged at the Reuven SDC. Of those 566, 344 calls have been open for more than 24 hours.
City Power outlined three key active outages affecting southern suburbs:
Mulbarton substation
The day-shift team has been tasked with investigating the cause of an outage affecting customers in Mulbarton Ext 1, 2, 3, 4, as well as possible surrounding areas.
The fault was reported on the morning of July 22. City Power said the outcome of the investigation will guide repair and restoration processes.
Wemmer substation
Teams are continuing to obtain the required materials to facilitate repairs to equipment damaged by burn faults.
The outage, first reported on July 19, remains unresolved and continues to affect customers in parts of The Hill.
Turffontein substation
The process of procuring a replacement unit is still underway following a fault on an indoor transformer. Customers in Stafford and possible surrounding areas continue to experience power interruptions.
City Power said there is still no estimated time for restoration. This outage was also reported on July 19.
Call to conserve
With the system under strain, City Power has appealed to all customers in the Reuven SDC area to switch off non-essential appliances and reduce usage where possible to help prevent further overloads and protect infrastructure.
