Some while back a resident drew my attention to a jacaranda tree in JC Lucas Park that appeared to be dying, JHB City Parks (JCP) were requested to appraise the situation and take appropriate action.

The decision was to remove the tree. While the entire tree had been cut down and removed, a rather dangerous stump remained. A request was made to the local JCP manager to make the stump safe. Within days it was done. See the before and after pictures.

The question that needs to be answered, and while this incident involved JCP, most of the Municipal Owned Entities and other Council Departments need to give it some thought as well: Why was the job not done properly the first time round?
