2014 World Cup hosts show their colours
Brazil beat Bafana by a record margin of goals 5-0.
BRAZIL gave the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, the beating of their lives at the hands of Neymar, who scored a hat-trick.
On a somewhat chilly evening the international match between Bafana Bafana and Brazil were played on Wednesday March 5 at FNB Stadium. Brazil won their penultimate friendly match which was played outside their country, 5-0, before they went into the World Cup. This was the fifth time that the two nations met each other and gave the South Africans a soccer lesson, beating them by a record margin.
Brazil also showed their new away gear when they came on the pitch for the second half with all the blue outfits, which they will use in their away matches during the World Cup. In the first half they displayed the usual yellow jerseys and blue trunks. Bafana wore their new outfit, the all-white jerseys and trunks.
The Barcelona midfielder, Neymar, showed why he is considered to be a world class player. Oscar and Fernandinho scored the other two goals for the 2014 FIFA World Cup hosts. He was also the inspiration for his team’s brilliant display of soccer skills and enthusiasm. Brazil will be the team to beat in this year’s World Cup.
South Africa’s woes started at the back when SuperSport United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams made his debut against a world class team and could not fend off the Brazilian’s kick at goals. Captain of Bafana Itumeleng Khune withdrew due to an injury, and Williams was handed the hot spot by head coach Gordon Igesund.
But it was not all the goalkeeper to blame, Bafana still didn’t have the defenders to play in such an important match to keep out the opposition and not expose the goalkeeper.
Once again it’s back to the drawing board for SAFA and the national teams coaching system before they start their quest to qualify for AFCON at the end of the year.
