Wemmer Pan rowers get around

The club also went down to Durban two weeks ago to compete in the Head of the Bay – a 12km row around the Durban harbour.

TWO gold medals rewarded the efforts of Wemmer Pan Rowing Club members who braved the frosty weather to compete in the 7km Head of the Vaal time trial on Saturday July 26.

“One of the ladies’ quads achieved gold, as did the men’s double,” said Wemmer Captain Elra de Jager.

“Most of the crews had lovely calm waters to row in, but the wind came up at about 09:30 and our other women quad had to contend with very choppy conditions. Congratulations to everyone on a pleasing performance.”

An octuplet, an eight and a four competed and all survived the container shipping, police launches and a few other challenges to record creditable times.
