Daniye Higher Primary School lifts u.14 Schools League trophy
Daniye won after clinching a 4-3 victory on penalties over the Eastern Cape’s Guqaza Secondary School.
JOHANESSBURG – Daniye Higher Primary School from Mpumalanga lifted the McDonald’s u.14 Schools League trophy with excitement when they were crowned the 2015 champions at Alexandra Stadium in Gauteng on Wednesday, September 30.
Daniye clinched the 4-3 victory on penalties over the Eastern Cape’s Guqaza Secondary School.
“We are proud to crown the sixth McDonald’s u.14 Schools League champions. Seeing the dedication and commitment of the players and the coaches across the tournament is testament to the fact that we are developing dreams and contributing to the development of grassroots football in South Africa,” said Sechaba Motsieloa, corporate affairs director of McDonald’s South Africa.
The 2015 McDonald’s u.14 Schools League’s saw over 3300 schools from nine provinces battle it out in a series of provincial play-offs, before the top provincial schools met in Alexandra for the national finals.
Other provinces were represented by:
· Western Cape – Bastiaanse Secondary School
· Free State – Bodikela School
· Kwa-Zulu Natal – Mlamuli Primary School
· Northern Cape – Rietvale High School
· Limpopo – Benny Sport Development Academy
· Gauteng – Sport School of Excellence
· North West – NR Mandela Secondary School
Mandla ‘Shoes’ Mazibuko, president of SASFA said: “The development of grassroots football in South Africa is given a substantial boost by the McDonald’s u.14 Schools League. The league provides structure for children to showcase their football talent and gives rising stars the opportunity to be scouted and ultimately hone their football skills in order to play at a professional level.”
