EFC 49 was held at the Big Top Arena at Carnival City and proved to be a stinger as Yannick Bahati overruled JP Kruger for the vacant middleweight belt.
EFC 49 was held on Friday, May 13, where Bahati was crowned the champion and took home the coveted belt.
The hometown favourite responded well in front of a packed crowd but Bahati emerged victorious after defeating JP via a Kimura submission.
The second last fight saw EFC veteran Andrew van Zyl claim a TKO victory over Polish giant Tomasz Kowalkowski. The fight was brought to a halt by referee Ferdi Basson after van Zyl pounded Kowalkowski for the count.
‘Fight of the Night’ was awarded to the middleweight bout on the undercard between Mark Kamba and Mzwandile Hlongwa. Performance bonuses were awarded to Wesley Hawkey, JP Buys, Wessel Mostert and Mthobisi Buthelezi.

JP Buys defeated Abdul Hassan via TKO (punches), 2:06 in round one.
Themba Gorimbo defeated Joe Cummins via unanimous decision.
Andrew van Zyl defeated Tomasz Kowalkowski via TKO (punches), 2:41 in round one.
Yannick Bahati defeated JP Kruger via Kimura submission, 3:52 in round one.
