Daniel Ferreira will compete for South Africa at our inaugural World Mounted Games team championship

DANIEL Ferreira will compete for South Africa at the country’s inaugural World Mounted Games team championship, to be held in KwaZulu-Natal from July 9 to 15.

Teams from Australia, England, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, South Africa, USA and Wales will vie for the title of World Mounted Games team champions 2017.

Ferreira has been taking riding lessons since he was six years old. Many will remember his super-talented Welsh Ponies Font Woodpecker (Woody) and Rhys First Edition (Paddy).

He rides with Jod’s Riding centre and has competed successfully in most equestrian disciplines although mounted games is now his passion.

He is the chairman of the Gauteng Mounted Games Association and their head coach.

The rest of the five-man squad are from KwaZulu-Natal. They are Megan Marr, Kyle Trollip, Megan Frost, Tomas Forsythe and Jayme Tegg, reserve. Chris Kritzinger is their coach.

The championship will be live-streamed and the South African Mounted Games Association is at present negotiating sponsorships with businesses and individuals. Various packages are available and are reasonably priced.

Those interested in finding out more about mounted games are welcome to attend a clinic on Saturday, May 13 and join in at the competition on Sunday May 14, both being held at the picturesque Penbritte Equestrian Centre in Alewynspoort.

Sanesa riders are also welcome and there are classes from lead-rein to open. Limited overnight stabling will also be available.
