The Emirates Lions started their three-match Australian tour on a positive note when they defeated the Western Force 24-15 in Perth on April 29.
The Southern Kings outplayed the Melbourne Rebels 44-3 in Port Elizabeth on Saturday evening to record their biggest Vodacom SuperRugby victory and register consecutive wins in the competition for the first time.
The Cell C Sharks bounced back to form in the late-evening clash in Buenos Aires by beating the powerful Jaguares 33-25 in a lively encounter to clinch a vital bonus-point win.
In another Saturday encounter, home side Toyota Cheetahs lost 48-21 to the unbeaten Crusaders in Bloemfontein, while on Friday the DHL Stormers were beaten 57-14 by the Highlanders in Dunedin.
The Johannesburg side stretched their lead on the Africa Conference 2 log to 37 points, while the team from Durban increased their tally to 28. Despite their heavy loss in Dunedin, the Cape Town franchise is still in the lead on the Africa Conference 1 league table with 26 points.
The Kings returned to Port Elizabeth on the back of a thrilling 26-24 win over the Waratahs in Sydney last weekend and they delivered an even better performance on Saturday night to score a big win over the Rebels in the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Young Cell C Sharks flyhalf Curwin Bosch continued with his impressive scoring form by kicking another 18 points in the Durban side’s crucial away win over the gritty Jaguares. Following their draw with the Rebels, coach Robert du Preez asked for an improved performance and the Cell C Sharks team responded by clinching a crucial away win against a very difficult opponent.
Despite their brave fighting effort, the Toyota Cheetahs were unable to prevent the Crusaders from maintaining their winning streak in Bloemfontein. The Crusaders team is the only unbeaten side in the competition, following their ninth win in a row.
The Emirates Lions had to work very hard for their 24-15 win over the Western Force in Perth, after leading 14-9 at half-time. Springbok flyhalf Elton Jantjies scored the visitors’ third try after the sound of the hooter to clinch a vital bonus-point win.
In the only match played on Sunday morning (SA time), the visiting Blues beat the Brumbies 18-12 to bag a bonus-point win in Canberra.
