Rovers women’s team plays first friendly

Rovers women’s Football team had their first ever friendly match.

THE 2017 newly-formed Rovers women’s football team had their first ever friendly match against Lufelo Rangers FC of Honeydew, on July 30, at Rovers.

The match ended in a well deserved two-all draw.

This was a big milestone for the Rovers women’s team, which is made up of moms, daughters and other women from the local community. The team has a good mix of players – those who have never kicked a ball before and those who have played in the Easterns Local Football Association (ELFA).

The team has made good, steady progress and the intention is to play in the ELFA league without putting pressure on the team members. The focus is on promoting a healthy lifestyle based on exercising for physical fitness and health.

The plan is two-pronged. It aims to develop and maintain a competitive and formidable ELFA league side whilst also developing a catchment feeder side.

The club has 13 players with a committed coach. Training days are Mondays and Wednesdays from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
