Top honour for Legal Eagle
Equus Awards 2016/2017 was held celebrate all the hard work during the season.
THE crown for the champion horse in the country for the 2016/2017 season is Legal Eagle.
The horse racing fraternity attended the prestigious Equus Awards evening on August 15 at Emperors Palace where trainers, breeders and owners received accolades for their efforts on and off the race track during the season.
But all eyes were on top trainer, Mike de Kock, who received the Special Achievement award for his 3 000 wins during the season. De Kock made history being the first trainer to record 3 000 career wins in South Africa.

Supporters of Legal Eagle had high hopes for him to walk away with top honours after a great season. He was also crowned the Champion Miler over 1 400m to 1 600m and Champion Older Male.
De Kock’s stable were also handed another trophy walking away with the Champion Two-Year-Old Colt which went to Australian-bred Mustaaqeem, by Redoute’s Choice.
Owner of the Year went to Markus Jooste, Trainer of the Year is Sean Tarry and fittingly, Jockey of the Year went to the hard-working and well-known, Anthony Delpech.
