Rugby Festival to be hosted by Alberton
This massive event will see veteran rugby players taking to the fields in all sorts of shapes, sizes and ages
THE Alberton Madalas Rugby Club will play host to a Rugby Festival of epic proportions. From September 21 to 23, the club will host the 2017 South African National Golden Oldies Rugby Association (SANGORA) national festival at the Alberton Rugby Club on Elandsfontein Drive in Alberton.
“This year’s event will be the 34th instalment on the trot of this auspicious event which has been in circulation since 1983,” said Peter Kluge, Sangora’s president.
Each year the event is hosted by a different club, preferably in a different province, with a number of Golden Oldies Rugby teams from all over the country participating in this magical spectacle of true veteran rugby.
This massive event will see veteran rugby players of all sorts of shapes, sizes and ages, taking to the fields. The event also features fantastic entertainment, food and refreshments.
The opening ceremony on September 21 will be followed by a match between the Sangora President’s Men over 50 versus Legends of The South over 50.
On Friday and Saturday teams from around the country will be competing against each other. Various levels of skill and fitness (or the lack thereof) will be on display.
Fantastic entertainment and catering will be evident throughout the festival which is sure to keep the atmosphere vibrant.
“Alberton Madalas Rugby Club is extremely proud to announce that 30 teams will be taking part in this event and we assure everyone of great fun, friendship and fraternity (our motto),” said Clayton Hollenbach from the Alberton Madalas.
The event is open to the public and everyone should witness this event at least once in his or her lifetime.
