GALLERY: Action packs fights at Boxing 11 presented by FOX Sport at Sibaya Casino
TwoWorld Boxing Association titles were at stake - the World Boxing Association (WBA) and Pan Africa title belts were on offer by their titleholders to the challengers.
SOME of the best of the continent’s boxers made their way to Africa Boxing 11 to put up a formidable show before a packed crowd.
Boxing 11 was presented by FOX Sport in conjunction with Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom on November 23.
TwoWorld Boxing Association titles were at stake – the World Boxing Association (WBA) and Pan Africa title belts were on offer by their titleholders to the challengers.
The main fight saw South African Akani Phuzi, out of the Alan Toweel stable, retain his WBA Pan African Cruiserweight title against Nigerian Afinni Abiodun.
In the other WBA Pan Africa lightweight contest, another South African, Ayanda Nkosi, retained his belt against his Botswana challenger, Steven Bagwasi.
Kyle de Klerk, director of Commercial and Business, FOX Sports Africa said: “This was our third event at Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom and saw an action-packed night with the South Africans retaining their crowns. The year 2019 will be another massive year for us and we will be back with more Africa Boxing events from February.”
The in-form Phuzi had no trouble disposing of Abiodun over 12 rounds to earn a unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight 120/108, 119/109 and 120/108.
He successfully used his jabs to good effect and pounded Abiodun with well-aimed punches to his body and head.
Phuzi won every single round as he remains unbeaten, taking his fight record to seven wins. Abiodun’s record stands at six wins, one draw and one loss.
South African Ayanda Nkosi successfully defended his WBA Pan African lightweight title, beating Bagwasi by a unanimous decision which the judges scored 117/110, 118/109, 119/109. Nkosi’s fight record now stands at 11 wins, one loss, while Bagwasi’s record stands at four wins and one loss.
Southerner, Paul Mangxilana, came up against Kutlwano Ogaketse from Botswana. He went down by unanimous points decision. The judges scored it 55/59, 56/58, 56/59 in an International lightweight bout. The victory takes Ogaketse’s record to four wins, one loss and one draw, while Mangxilana’s record stands at five wins five losses and five draws.
Mangxilana was hospitalised on the morning before the fight apparently as a result of the food he ingested. But he went onto to show his mettle against Ogaketse.

The first bout saw Botswanan Moabi Nqaka beat South African Rirothe Randima on unanimous points decision of their International featherweight bout over four rounds 37/39, 36/40, 36/40. The victory takes Nqaka’s fight record to two wins and one loss while the loss is Randima’s second of his career. It leaves the South African’s record at two wins and two losses.
Botswana’s Kagiso Bagwasi beat DRC’s Kiabua Mafisi on points in an International welterweight bout 37/39, 37/40, 36/40. The victory sees Bagwasi retain his unbeaten status and take his fight record to three wins three wins while the loss for Mafisi is the first of his career.
South Africa’s John Bopape beat Namibian Anthony Jarmann on a stoppage in the eighth round in an International super-welterweight contest.
