Futballing Girls announced the finalists for the Gauteng Women in Sports Awards 2022.
The winners of the 2021 Westrand, Ekurhuleni, Johannesburg, Tshwane and Sedibeng Women in Sports Awards are all finalists for the Gauteng Women in Sports Awards.
The finalist encompasses many different sporting codes including skydiving, athletics, football, rugby, tennis, martial arts, golf, softball, volleyball, disability sport and so many more.
“Futballing Girls is and always will be unapologetic and very intentional about creating impactful platforms for women in sport. Our Women in Sports Awards are not just about having a recognition platform, but an instrument to drive change on perceptions, stereotypes, and growth in women in sport participation on the field and in the boardroom,” said Moonira Ramathula, founder and chairperson of the awards.
“It’s important for us to empower women to understand that the responsibility of gender equality is each of our responsibilities and not through instructional or once-off events.
“This calls for continuous action of finding ways of elevating the women in sport brand and creating opportunities for each other.
The awards debuted in Ekurhuleni in September 2018 and have since been launched in all five districts in Gauteng, culminating in the Gauteng Women in Sports Awards.
“I want to not just congratulate the finalists but thank everyone who sent through nominations for it ensured the fight goes on for gender equality and the empowerment of women in sport continues,” said Ramathula.
The 2022 Gauteng Women in Sports Awards will take place on March 25 in Johannesburg.
