Alberton wrestler Eddie Lessing proceeds to World Championship in wrestling

A pat on the back for Alberton’s amateur wrestler Eddie Lessing for winning two gold medals in two categories and qualifying for the World Championships in Spain on October 15.

Edward, commonly known as Eddie, headed to Pietersburg in Limpopo to train for the Commonwealth of Nations Championship, which took place in England in August.

The young champion was raised in Alberton, where he developed a passion for wrestling. He is a veteran member of South Africa’s national wrestling team.

According to the wrestler, the two months excursion to Pietersburg helped him a lot in ensuring that he wins big in the Commonwealth of Nations Championships.

“I was aware that the two-month camp in Pietersburg will be demanding, but I also knew that I would benefit from it and that it would increase my chances of taking home gold,” Edward said.

Edward told the Alberton Record that winning the World Championship in Spain would mean that he is the greatest and he is indeed putting the required strength and effort into ensuring that his dreams are met.

Before this, he participated in the African Continental Championship in Morocco, where he placed third in freestyle and fifth in Greco-Roman.

“I sincerely thank God for the blessing he keeps showering me with and for continuing nurturing the talent he gave me. I am proud of my recent accomplishment, as I have previously told the Record that I aim to win the gold medal in Birmingham in England and seeing that happening has indeed proved that everyone is capable,” Edward affirmed.

Due to the sport’s ability to impart valuable life lessons like self-control and discipline, he refers to wrestling as a vocation.

As a result of having everything necessary to perform at his peak in the ring, Edward contends he was born with the natural ability to be a successful wrestler.

The young star is ranked first in his weight class in South Africa.
