Booysens boxer defeats DRC fighter

Lebogang Mashitoa will be fighting in February 2023 for the light heavy SA title.

Local champ Lebogang Mashitoa is preparing to go head-to-head with Eastern Cape boxer Lovuyo Sizani for the vacant SA light heavyweight title.

This follows his recent 10-round bout against Youseff Mwanza from the DRC at Carousel Casino.

He won the contest with a unanimous points decision.

Managed by Colleen McAusland and trained by Vusi Motolo, Mashitoa has added another win to his record of triumphs.

“The fight was tough, and so was my opponent. I must admit that he was physically stronger than me, but I was ready for the challenge because I always step into the ring fit. I also needed to make sure that my mind and heart were prepared,” said Mashitoa.

He managed to outbox his opponent, winning eight of the 10 rounds.

According to McAusland, Mashitoa has dropped from cruiser to the light heavyweight division.

“He’s been doing very well in his new division. He is a hardworking boxer and his boxing name is ‘The Machine’ for a reason. He trains twice a day, six days a week and is determined to become a champion in February. I have no doubt that he will be the new SA champion,” said McAusland.

She thanked 5th Element Promotions for allowing Mashitoa to fight at Carousel Casino.
