The Jozi Nuggets women’s basketball team capped off a dominant 2026 season with two major titles, cementing their status as one of the top sides in the country.

The Nuggets were crowned champions of the Wits Ashies Tournament after beating the Soweto Women’s team on May 1.

The win continued an undefeated, 10-day run in which the ladies captured two major trophies.

The Jozi Nuggets basketball club primarily trains and plays its home games at the Klipriviersberg Recreation Centre in Johannesburg South.

The squad combined veteran composure from Siphiwe Chitlango and Alice Timba with the energy of rising stars Herculina Bila, Lindokuhle Nkabini, and Anna Mudlovu.

Building on that momentum, the team went on to capture the 2026 ICSL Senior Ladies championship, wrapping up a highly successful campaign.

Club owner and coach Andile Hlophe led the side through both competitions, guiding a roster that balanced experience and youth to deliver consistent performances across the season.

The double triumph marks a standout year for the Jozi Nuggets and sets a high benchmark heading into 2027.

“I am so proud of this team, their dedication, hard work and talent have been remarkable. I am deeply honoured to coach all these ladies. The Jozi Nuggets also want to thank Joburg for their support; it meant the world to us,” said Hlope.
