Honeymoon Murder Trial Week 7
Shrien Dewani faces either acquittal or the witness stand. Carte Blanche analyses the seventh week of the Honeymoon Murder trial, a week in which the State closed its case and Dewani’s lawyers applied to the Western Cape High Court for their client’s acquittal on charges of conspiring to have his new wife Anni Dewani killed.

Child Protection Register
“Greg” alleges that a teacher, previously convicted of sexual abuse of minors, abused him at school. It’s also alleged that the school knew about the teacher’s history. The Child Protection Register – now with 555 names of convicted offenders against children – exists to prevent precisely this scenario. Yet, Carte Blanche finds that many schools and workplaces still do not check teachers and employees, who come into contact with children, against the list.

Top Tech for Frere
East London’s Frere Hospital serves some of the country’s most desperate communities. When Carte Blanche visited the hospital in 2011, children were being operated on in under-resourced adult theatres while an abandoned operating theatre suite was being used as a storage facility. Funded by the Carte Blanche Making a Difference Campaign, the hospital now boasts two new state of the art dedicated paediatric operating theatres complete with Recovery and Nurses stations, management offices, sterilisation rooms and more.
