Pensioners’ food wasted during load shedding

An elderly couple loses their food on a four hours long load shedded.

LETTER – My husband and I are pensioners from Robertshem. We lost our food during load shedding which lasted at least four hours on Monday, June 8, from 18:00.

On days when we are warned about load shedding, I am able to prepare for it. On that particular day we did not get a warning. Our food was rotten and I had to throw it away the following day.

My husband has a heart condition and must stick to a specific diet. When food is wasted, we, as pensioners, must dig deep into our pockets to buy more. We do not have that kind of money.

Even our refrigerator does not sound the same way when the power returns. I mean, someone has to be responsible. We cannot be treated like this.

Disappointed pensioner
