Joburg Tourism wins top award

The Diamond Arrow award - rated by a random sample of 140 respondents.

JOBURG Tourism, the City of Johannesburg’s destination marketing entity, added yet another feather to its cap when it scooped the Diamond Arrow Award at the 2016 PMR Africa Leaders and Achievers awards ceremony at the Nasrec Expo Centre on Monday, November 21.

The Professional Management Review (PMR) magazine hosts the awards every year in recognition of companies, institutions and individuals that have profiled Johannesburg as a growth-point and potential investment hub for foreign and local developers and investors.

The award seeks to acknowledge their contribution to the economic growth and development of the city, brand awareness, competencies and management expertise.

Companies are also rated against their implementation of corporate governance and levels of innovation.

The Diamond Arrow Award is the highest honour for a company that excels in enhancing and promoting tourism in the city. It is rated by a random sample of 140 respondents comprising chief executive officers, managing directors, business owners, company directors, managers and senior government officials based in Johannesburg.

The City of Johannesburg’s Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development, Clr Sharon Peetz said the award is testament to Joburg Tourism’s dedicated efforts in continuously positioning Johannesburg as the leading destination on the African continent for business, investment, leisure and lifestyle.

“As with the MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index (GDCI) announced last week, when Joburg emerged as the continent’s most-visited destination for the fourth consecutive year, it is an unsolicited and very welcome accolade that we are thrilled to accept on behalf of all our city and industry partners, stakeholders and peers who work tirelessly to make Johannesburg Africa’s number one destination,” said Clr Peetz.

Joburg Tourism’s Laura Vercueil added: “As the City’s destination marketing organisation, it is always such an honour to be recognised, not only for doing our job but also for doing it to the best of our ability.”
