Soweto’s Finest to host free dance workshops
This is an exciting venture for future dance stars.
THIS December, Soweto’s Finest dance studio is giving back to the community by hosting free workshops at Southgate Mall on December 17 from 11:00 to 15:00.
Members Thomas Chauke, Njabulo Mahlaba, Samson Ngcina and Mpho Rapote recently opened a dance studio, which is managed by Sandile Shange, and have been joined by professional dance teachers Thami Ncube (Hip Hop), Matsebo Meyi (Latin and Ballroom) and Zola Ndebele (Contemporary, Afro Jazz and Ballet).
The group leaders, Tom London and Sandile Shange, started the international dance group in 2006 where they would travel around Soweto to 21st birthday parties and perform without an invitation, just for recognition. Their first paid performance was during the FIFA 2010 World Cup and since then they have appeared on television, toured the country, the continent and even performed overseas.
Tom and Sandile are both orphans and have been like brothers to each other. “I remember, after my parents died, I would walk to school from Protea Glen to Lenasia and often went without a meal all day. When the principal asked how I would pay for my school fees, I replied that only God knew,” Tom said. “Today, Sandile and I are leaders of an international brand, ambassadors of our own clothing line, owners of our own dance studio in Southgate Mall, providers and people that empower the youth through creative arts. God is great!”
Sandile believes dancing is dreaming with your feet. “If you’ve ever had an interest in dance then these workshops will be a life-changing experience, whether you’re a first timer or advanced dancer – and all classes are free.”
The programme for the workshop on December 17 is: Contemporary (11:00), Latin and Ballroom (12:00), Hip Hop (13:00) and IsiBhujwa (14:00). To book a spot, SMS “dance style”, your name, surname and age to Zola on 084 714 6494 or Sandile on 081 700 0593.
