WATCH: Sarah Wissler resigns from DA and joins ActionSA

“I will also remain committed to the residents of my ward and will continue to serve them under the ActionSA banner.

After a decade of service as a councillor, Ward 23 former councillor Sarah Wissler has resigned, not only as ward councillor but also from the DA.

She explained that it has been a wonderful journey for her to serve the community with dignity, and believes it was time for a change.

“I have resigned from the DA and consequently as a ward councillor. I have joined ActionSA’s campaign team and I will be working with them to grow support in the South of Johannesburg ahead of the 2021 local government elections,” said Wissler.

Reason for her resignation

“I left the DA because I feel like it is no longer an inclusive party dedicated to unseating the ANC. I believe ActionSA and I share the same values.

“Under the ethical leadership of Herman Mashaba, I believe it is the only party capable of building the kind of South Africa I want to live in,” explained Wissler.

Her role as a member of ActionSA will be to grow support for ActionSA in the South.

“I will form part of the Johannesburg campaign team with a focus on growing ActionSA support and awareness in the South of Johannesburg.

“I will also remain committed to the residents of my ward and will continue to serve them under the ActionSA banner. My availability is to stand as the ActionSA candidate for Ward 23 in the elections later this year,” she said.
Voted back on Gansra organisation

Wissler explained that she is a founding member of Gansra, which was established in 2013, and that the organisation was involved in several community projects until she became a candidate for Ward 23 in 2016 when she resigned as a member of Gansra.

“I resigned as a founder of Gansra but worked closely with them since my husband was chairperson. If they had community projects and other things they do I will gladly support them. “Since I have resigned from being a councillor for the DA, Gansra voted me back on as a director, where I will be very much involved with Gansra from now on,” said Wissler.

Still fight for what’s right for her community

Wissler said she will still stick to the same motto that she has been practising since she became a ward councillor, which is fighting for rights and standing up against corruption, women abuse and government incompetence.

“These issues are closely aligned to the seven core values of ActionSA and I will continue to champion them in my new role.

“Just because I am no longer a councillor, does not mean I cannot help my residents.

“The only thing that has changed is my party affiliation, and my belief that ActionSA is what South Africa needs to make progress as a country,” she said.
