Informal settlements get much-needed help
Local community and businesses are urged to come forward and help the informal settlements in the South.
The Feed Station Organization SA continues to help the people of Wembley and Booysens informal settlements.
It also wants to thank everyone who has helped it with its initiatives in the South. Vinesh Moonsamy from Feed Station Organization SA said they would like to also thank COURIER for its role in creating awareness with the informal settlements.
“Our team at The Feed Station Organization SA would like to start with a big thank you to COURIER for giving us the platform to spread awareness of the struggles our local communities are facing. We would like to extend a big thank you to councillor Rashieda Landis from Ward 55 for aiding us in our projects and initiatives, for assisting our cause when our calls went unanswered and for providing us with a platform to continue making a difference in our local communities,” he said.

Clean-up campaign
On May 12, The Feed Station Organization SA initiated the first phase of its clean-up campaign at the informal settlement based at The Wembley Stadium.
The project has been divided into four phases as the situation is dire and the aim is to urgently improve the living conditions of the residents.
“We appeal to local businesses and community members to come out and assist us with this initiative. We call on the assistance of the Department of Health and Department of Housing, as well as local ward councillors to assist as we are an NPO with limited resources. We aim to initiate phase two of our campaign within the next three months. We would also like to acknowledge ward councillor candidate Elaine Hemero (Ward 124) and My Lilies of Hope, another NPO, for coming out and extending their support on this initiative,” he said.

Booysens informal settlement
The organisation is pleased to announce it has been able to reach out to an additional informal settlement based in the Booysens area on May 18.
“We have been advised that there was an informal settlement in desperate need. We would like to thank Ace Auto Salvage for standing with us on this initiative. There are a large number of underprivileged children we would love to assist regularly. We appeal to local businesses in Booysens, as well as the community to help us make a difference frequently,” added Vinesh.
