Moodie wins Gauteng veterans title
Nail-biting finish for Moodie.
Gauteng’s inter-provincial road cycling championship took place over the weekend of May 29 and 30 at the Cradle of Humankind.
The race consisted of four laps around the Cradle of Humankind to make up a total of 127.5km that the cyclers had to endure. Casper Moodie had a nail-biting finish when he won the veteran (VA) age category at the championship, edging the second-place cycler in a sprint finish with 0.01 seconds.

Moodie said he was in good form and managed to stay with the leading bunch.
“I still lined up at provincial champs with good form on the bike and a great team behind me, Team Honeycomb Pro Cycling. I managed to stay with the leading bunch in the VA category until we were only two riders left and it came down to a sprint finish where I managed to take the win in 0.01seconds.
“I still managed a good win, although my training had changed since my two silver medals at the South African champs earlier this year due to competing at the Durban 70.3 Ironman on June 6 and the African triathlon championships in Egypt on June 13 where I will be competing with visually impaired athlete Gavin Kilpatrick in the hopes to qualify for 2022 Commonwealth Games,” he said.
Moodie’s teammate Kyle Mitchell won the individual time trial event on Saturday. “Big thanks to our sponsors and the Honeycomb family for backing the team every time.”
