Security officer catches copper thief

Mondeor SAPS praise private security's efficiency.

A routine patrol in Mondeor turned into a major intervention on February 2, when a Fox Security reaction officer spotted a suspect sprinting across the road and ducking into nearby bush.

The officer immediately radioed for backup and supplied a detailed description of the individual.

When the officer investigated further, he found the suspect actively stripping copper cables from a manhole, a theft that threatens essential infrastructure.

Thanks to quick coordination and decisive action, the suspect was apprehended at the scene.

The individual was then handed over to Mondeor SAPS for further processing and investigation into the cable theft.

Lieutenant Colonel Xulu of the Mondeor SAPS spoke about the arrest.

“The suspect will be charged with vandalism and tampering with essential infrastructure. The fact that security is able to find and apprehend these individuals is a great help to the community,” said Xulu.
