Many familiar faces on Woodlands BC’s new committee

THE Woodlands Bowling Club AGM was held on Saturday, 28 September.
Re-elections were the order of the day, with Linda Hewer re-elected as president, Gloria Rice vice president, Bill Hewer treasurer, Lyn Carlyle secretary and combined men’s and women’s secretary Arthur Carlyle.
The selection committee is Arthur Carlyle, Gloria Rice, Mike Mcfarland and Brian Kimber.
The rest of the committee is made up by Brian Kimber, Andy Cloete, both of whom were re-elected and newcomer Dave Vincent. The greenkeeping duties will once again be overseen by Andy Cloete and Bill Hewer. Dennis Holloway was awarded honorary life membership of the bowling section.
The fun day held on Sunday, 29 September was well supported with 37 players taking part in the spirit of bowling, with everyone going home with something. Top dogs of the day were Terry Brown, Jean Woodstock, Lucille Woodstock and Bronwyn Hewer on 4+23.
Runners-up were Arthur Carlyle, Dave Vincent, Jason Hewer and Travis Harris on 4+13. Most touches by the non-bowlers went to Oliver Masoni and Jackie McIntosh with five each. The 60/4 board lion’s share was claimed Alan Bouwer with the scraps going to Courtney Jenkins.
The casual pairs take place on Wednesday, 2 October with the monthly casual fours on Thurday, 3 October. To enter a side, call Linda on 082-724-6575 or Arthur Carlyle on 076-588-7377. A reminder that the tabs are always in for Wyn and Peter Brammage will take place on 12 October at 1.30pm. Dixie, Lesley Morrison and Dennis Tarboton picked the right numbers for Friday night’s meat draw. Leonie venter was not present for the snowball, ensuring the pool will be extended to R250 next week. The numbers 2-4-5 and bonus 8 produced a complete carryover in the lotto.
Rosa Vincent’s name was first out of the barrel in Saturday’s swindle, to choose the texan steak. Other winners being Pavarotti the cat, Dave Leuchars (2), Keith Hughes (4), Peter Jenkins, Dawn Moore, Trevor Hibbard, Brian Elliott and Dennis Tarboton.
The nominated three dart killer on Friday was won by Keith Jenkins with Anthony Smith in second place. JP Wessels beat Keith Jenkins 3-2 in the semi-finals of the club bowls championships. A camp out, weather permitting, is planned for 19 October.
Dennis Holloway lined his pocket in the national lotto bonus number draw. Rob de Wildt celebrated his 60-something birthday on Friday, 27 September.
Ralph and Val Mostert have returned after a six week holiday in the USA, which included a cruise to the Caribbean on the Allure of the Seas.
