Isipingo Secondary crowned Team Speak winners
THE South Durban Basin (SDB) Area Based Management’s (ABM) ‘Team Speak’ champions from Isipingo Secondary were crowned at the Sustainability Expo at the Durban Exhibition Centre on Saturday, 7 September.

The trio from Isipingo Secondary, Avesh Hemraj, Omaira Japbhay and Angel Mzizi, faced strong competition from the other three schools in the finals, PR Pather, Mowat Park and Port Natal, but managed to talk their way to victory.
The competition, organised by the SDB ABM office in partnership with the Department of Education included 11 schools competing for a place in the finals, with a focus on sustainability and environmental protection.
“Winning the competition has boosted our self-esteem, shaped our debating skills and also strengthened our public speaking skills,” said Avesh Hemraj. The winning team were awarded a floating trophy, a field trip to the Treasure Beach Education Centre hosted by the Wildlife and Environmental Society of South Africa and the title of grade 9 Team Speak champions for 2013.
“It was encouraging to see such a high standard of arguments being presented by the pupils. We are interested in their solutions, and will look at supporting some of the schools in implementing them, as it is such solutions that will impact on saving our environment,” said SDB ABM manager, Eurakha Singh.
