Pregnancy no deterrent from life of crime
A ZIMBABWEAN woman (28) charged with the possession of stolen property appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court on Monday, 16 September.
The woman, who has also been charged with housebreaking and theft, was arrested by Montclair SAP on Friday, 13 September. Cst Nora Ndlovu, who arrested the woman said: “I received a call from a man who was a victim of theft, claiming he had tracked his Ipad to a house in Blamey Road. I accompanied him to the residence and found the woman on the property. The woman was co-operative and agreed to have her property searched. During the search, I found the missing Ipad, along with other stolen items.”
Recovered items included a suitcase full of clothing, a laptop and eight cellphones. The woman was released on R2,000, bail after the magistrate said it was impossible for her to steal because she was pregnant.
After she was released on bail, the woman was caught red-handed on Thursday, 26 September. W/O Cele and Msomi responded to a housebreaking in Bertram Place. When questioned, the woman said she needed a place to stay. She was taken into custody along with her daughter.
She appeared in court on Monday, 30 September and the case was postponed for Monday, 7 October. The child is now in her aunt’s custody.
Communications officer, Lt Leopold Jojozi applauds the officers for their diligence.
