Newly opened home hopes for festive cheer

As the festive season draws near, Thornhill House residents are calling on the community to help them have a memorable Christmas Day.

This will be the first Christmas for the home since its re-opening in May. “Many of the residents don’t have family and many of them won’t receive any Christmas presents,” said operations co-ordinator, Sandra Weldon. “The day area really lacks a homely-feel. What would be great is to be able to hand-out parcels to the residents. It would be nice to have a Christmas lunch, even to have carol singers to spread some festive cheer.”

The home is in need of Christmas decorations, a Christmas tree, toiletries, table cloths, fans, heaters, desserts, fruits and more. “We want to make it a special Christmas for the residents.”

The home currently houses 44 occupants, with 15 more expected by Christmas time.
