Sexual predator warning issued to children
BRIGHTON Beach SAP communications officer, Captain Louise ‘Lollipop’ Le Roux embarked on a road show in October, teaching children about the dangers of sexual predators.
Her talk, ‘The three spots’ was aimed at preventing children becoming prey to sexual assault and rape. With the aid of her ragdolls, she showed them the areas of their body that are not allowed to be touched or hurt by anyone.
She addressed 3,700 pupils at 10 schools and found children in grade R to 3 were not sure what a good and a bad secret was, and weren’t aware that people they know and trust would give them treats or gifts so they can touch them in a bad or hurtful way.
“Children were encouraged to reject such gifts and immediately report the person to their parents or an adult.”
The dangers of child pornography were also discussed and the measures children should take if someone requested images or videos of them.
She encourages parents to speak to their children about these dangers on a regular basis. “It is a good idea to reiterate this with them prior to and after visiting with friends or family. This is how parents can condition their children and help the police in the fight to prevent children falling prey to sexual crimes.”
She thanks all the schools involved for their partnership in the school crime awareness initiative.
