Winnie Mkhize, the manager of the Merwent Cheshire Home, said that they are immensely grateful to the trust for this donation.
“Transport is one of most essential need for our residents who are wheelchair bound. They require specially modified vehicles to transport them to access basic services and to live their lives inclusively and freely. This bus will take them to hospitals, sport and recreation programmes, education facilities, excursions, workplace and employment avenues, training and more,” she said.
The home’s previous vehicle had a number of challenges with the engine which resulted in it needing constant repairs. Mkhize said that this sponsorship will definitely change the lives of the residents for the better.
“The sight of the bus brought tears of joy and excitement which was made possible by the trustees, CEO Gaff Osman and Social Responsibility Executive Rasheeda Motala. A special thanks to Jane Pillay of the Sibaya Community Trust and Fatima Hussain,” she said.
The new vehicle will ensure residents can get to the necessary appointments with no worries.
