Career-criminal in the dock
A man (28) was arrested by Montclair SAP after being caught fleeing a house he had broken into on Sunday, 27 October.
The man identified himself to the police. He had in his possession a cellphone valued at about R8,500, which was suspected to be stolen. He appeared in Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 October.
While in court, he was recognised by Brighton Beach detectives, who knew him by an alternative name. Upon the request of the detectives, he was remanded at Brighton Beach while investigations continued. His name was confirmed and he was linked to five cases including robberies, two business robberies and an assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm committed during 2011.
He appeared in Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 29 November. Provincial Commissioner of Kwazulu-Natal, Lt-Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni urged the public to report all criminal activity as a way of strengthening cases against career-criminals in court.
