Pro cyclists critical after Marine Drive crash
TWO professional cyclists were gravely injured on Tuesday, 26 November at about 9am when they were knocked off their bicycles while cycling on Marine Drive.
The cyclists, Andrew Warr and Robert Dupreez, were found lying in the road near the intersection of Grays Inn Road. They were attended to by Rescue Care paramedics, Bluff Community Medical Services, Community Orientated Policing members and concerned eye witnesses. They had been hit when a car allegedly turned in front of them at the intersection.
Despite both riders wearing full riding gear and helmets, they sustained critical injuries and advanced life support was used to stabilise them, before they were taken to local hospitals. Warr’s left arm was broken and he had cuts and bruises to his entire body. Dupreez broke his jaw and right shoulder, and also sustained numerous cuts and bruises.
Both bicycles were damaged beyond repair. Police were on scene to investigate the cause of the incident.
