‘Trailer-trash’ dumping won’t be tolerated
IRRESPONSIBLE Bluffites are warned to dump their trash correctly, or face enforcement measures.
Ward 66 councillor, Duncan Du Bois received reports from frustrated employees of the Bluff Municipal Garden Refuse depot of the abuse of the bins intended for garden refuse only.
“When I visited the site I was appalled at what I saw. Orange bags that are intended for paper and plastic were filled with glass bottles and had been dumped in one of the bins meant for garden trimmings. Worse still, were the reams of polystyrene foam which is not biodegradable.
The response of the staff to my inquiry as to why this abuse was occurring, was that members of the public ignored their appeals and insisted that as ratepayers they could dispose of their refuse as they wished.
I find this attitude deplorable. Unfortunately it is symptomatic of the trailer-trash culture that is increasingly enveloping our society. As a result, I have asked the head of DSW to provide enforcement measures to crack down on irresponsible users of the refuse facility. I also don’t accept the excuse that the bins might have been full at a given time. People need to be reasonable and responsible.”
