Concept designs being drafted for Bluff beaches

The plans for the Bluff beach upgrade in being put together before the next round of community meeting.

THE Bluff beach upgrade plans are still underway as concept designs are being drawn-up by the Architecture services and Economic Development Unit of eThekwini Municipality.

A progress report is expected towards the end of this month, after which a second round of community participation meetings will take place, allowing residents to weigh in the designs.

“The first stage of the project has been completed, comprising of an analysis of the information gathered during the intensive public participation process held during the latter part of 2013. The results have been captured in a comprehensive document which looks at the four unique character beaches in great detail. The document provides a tabulated list of challenges at each beach, the various seasonal beach activities, the needs and desirability of the community and makes recommendations of possible projects and management strategies,” said Bilal Haq, of Professional Urban Designer from City Architects.

“Due to the environmental sensitivity of the beaches, our specialist consultants are presently conceptualising the identified projects in more detail to present to the city’s environmental and climate change branch.”

Once the community responses and suggestions have been taken into account, the final proposal will be drawn up for implementation.
