Man hands himself over for Merebank murder

Mother discovers her daughter's lifeless body.

Montclair SAP’s W/O Rico Naidoo has been called in to investigate the case of murdered Merebank woman, Ashika Singh (35), who was found with a plastic bag over head on Monday, 3 March.

Her lifeless body was discovered by her mother, Dolly in the early hours of the morning. She had been strangled with an extension cord and suffocated with a plastic bag. A 30-year-old man handed himself over to Wentworth police station the same day. It is alleged he committed the crime on Sunday and made off with a rental vehicle as well as money.

He was charged murder and robbery and appeared briefly in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 5 March. The case was postponed for Wednesday, 12 March for bail consideration.
